The day had finally arrived! Our Sea-Men Cup kicked off on August 31st. With a late influx of sign-ups, we ended up with a whopping 36 players! It was amazing to see such a diverse group from across Europe, including people from Belgium, Germany, and Italy, making our tournament a bigger success than we could have imagined.
We all met up around 9 AM to start with coffee and get the last few things sorted out. Around 10 AM, the doors were scheduled to open, and our magic card seller Wijnand from Power Negen arrived right on time and could easily set up his tables to sell some of the most powerfull cards in Magic the Gathering.
One of the highlights of the event was the presence of the legendary Timmy the Sorcerer – YouTube, a renowned YouTuber. Timmy was kind enough to live stream our tournament, capturing all the excitement and action for viewers around the world. He was also right on time to set up his equipment, ensuring that the stream started without a hitch. After everyone started trickling in and had signed up, the tournament could begin a little after 11 AM, slightly later than expected, but the roads were quite busy and some players were a bit behind schedule due to traffic. After the first pairing, players found their tables and the game could begin. Everyone looked enthusiastic and ready to play! Decks were shuffled, knives were drawn, and the first two rounds were underway.
After two rounds of intense competition, the standings started to take shape. It was a series of hard-fought battles, with players strategizing and adapting to their opponents’ moves. After two rounds of hard-fought battles, it was time for lunch. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather, so everyone could eat outside. Fully recharged, it was time for round 3!
As the afternoon progressed, the stakes grew higher. With each passing round, the competition became more fierce. Who would claim the very first title of Sea-Men Cup champion?
The finals were a thrilling match-up, with both players giving it their all. Both games were incredibly close, but in the end, it was Baptist’s strategic gameplay that secured him the win. His opening move in the first game was a masterclass in precision, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
With the tournament wrapped up and a champion crowned, it was time to put our feet up and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Our amazing chef had outdone himself with a meal fit for a king (or at least, a very skilled magic player). After dinner, some folks couldn’t resist the urge to shuffle up and play again, while others opted for a more leisurely pace, sipping on drinks and swapping stories, do you know what an angry dragon is these are the things you learn at THE SEA-MEN CUP!!!!
