The thrill of tournaments was once again in the air, folks. A new month brought a new opportunity for glory, and this time, it felt like a battle on home turf – Ghent! But hold your waffles, this competition on June 15th wasn’t your average throwdown. The Granite Gargoyle Guild Ghent had issued a challenge: The Quest for the Golden Gargoyle! Were we brave (or crazy) enough to answer the call? Of course we were, or so we thought…
The tournament was held at the de Vrolijke Viking cafe, a popular spot known for its delicious pizzas. Upon entering the tournament grounds, we were greeted by the organizer, Gwen, a friendly Belgian, that gives you the feeling you know each other for years. As always we were a little bit early so we had some time before the tournament began, we bumped into some familiar faces – fellow competitors we’d met at previous events.
We started the tournament in high spirits, but this quickly turned to less luck. It turned out our performance was about as good as a jellyfish in a hurricane. Jup you got it we had some bad Sea-Men. Our magical skills failed us. We made too many mistakes due to poor mana management and had the wrong spells in our hand, It was just not our day of playing Magic. Despite the epic fails raining down like a meteorite shower, we had a blast! Hanging out with these awesome people is always a win, even if our win record was as impressive as a drunken gnome trying to juggle fireballs. We may have finished dead last (think shipwreck, not treasure chest), but the laughs were pure gold.
It was a very fun tournament to join and we hope next year we get a rematch.
